The Green Book

Decades after the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth Amendment ended slavery, African-Americans continued to suffer unequal treatment, especially in the South. Jim Crow Laws discriminated against blacks in nearly every aspect of public life, including travel. Although the roads and highways were free for all to use, doing so was not easy for people of color. The Green Book, written by Victor Green, provided guidance for African American travelers to find safe locations to sleep, eat, shop and purchase gas.

RIP Ukie

Had the misfortune of losing a fury family member this month.  Ukie was 11 years old and developed advanced diabetes which took her over the bridge in less then a week. Funny how we become so attached to our pets. Going to miss this little lady a great deal.

Colors of Spring

Beautiful day with temperatures around 70 degrees! The kind of day which could be considered perfect for tuning up and cleaning camera gear.   As always my backyard is the choice for this yearly ritual with no packing or travel required. Sleeping Bear Dunes

Could not have asked for a better day then spending it with the wife on the shores of lake Michigan at Sleeping Bear Dunes,   For those who have never visited this area, it should be added to your bucket list of places to see in Michigan. You won’t be disappointed!  Towering as high as 450 feet above lake Michigan the views are simply magnificent to say the least.  The dune overlooks at the Sleeping Bear, Empire and Pyramid Point
